At JaVinchi's Angels, we understand that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) face unique challenges, but our Angels are dedicated to providing community and support along the way. We believe that everyone who comes through our doors deserves the developmental disabilities support needed to reach their full potential.
Unfortunately, the availability of affordable housing is far less than the demand, resulting in many people with IDD being institutionalized, homeless, or living in ‘worst case’ housing situations, where they pay too much in rent to afford other essentials or live in severely inadequate conditions.
The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, and national origin. Complaints from individuals with disabilities often represent the majority of discrimination claims received by HUD’s Fair Housing Enforcement Office and other fair housing agencies. It is essential that we advocate for more accessible and affordable housing options, including sober living homes, to ensure everyone has a safe place to call home.
