Provides oversight to home operations and performs duties in the areas of staff supervision, operational administration, home management, therapeutic intervention, teaching skills, documentation, and Individual Habilitation Plan and/or Treatment Plan development. This role is significant in creating angel job opportunities and fostering sponsorship for disabilities, while also being involved in various volunteer programs.

A direct support professional (DSP) assists individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, often referred to as I/DD. They help with everyday tasks such as housekeeping, meal preparation, attending appointments, and running errands. DSPs also support people with disabilities to participate in their communities, including through employment, which can include exploring angel job opportunities. Additionally, they help individuals with I/DD achieve the fullest lives possible by empowering them to overcome challenges in areas that would otherwise prevent self-sufficiency. DSP responsibilities include performing personal care tasks, ensuring client safety, and accompanying clients to scheduled appointments. Organizations also offer sponsorship for disabilities and volunteer programs to further assist DSPs in their vital work.

Through our Non-profit, we offer the opportunity for sponsorship for disabilities, allowing individuals in need of financial assistance to access additional Independent Supported living homes. 

For people with disabilities, housing barriers are a significant concern. Without affordable, accessible housing in the community, many individuals face the risk of institutionalization or homelessness.

Across the nation, an affordability crisis affects many people with disabilities. Approximately 4.8 million non-institutionalized individuals who depend on federal monthly Supplemental Security Income (SSI) have an average income of only about $9,156 per year, which is far too low to afford rent in any housing market nationwide.

Many individuals with IDD live with aging caregivers (aged 60 and older). As this generation ages, their adult children with IDD may be increasingly at risk of institutionalization or homelessness.

The availability of affordable, accessible housing is significantly lower than the demand, leaving too many individuals with IDD either institutionalized, homeless, or in “worst case” housing situations—paying excessively for rent while struggling to afford essential needs or living in severely inadequate conditions.
